A Plan for Teaching K-12 Writing
An overall plan for producing good writers at home. This workshop explains how to guide your student through a simple progression (copying, dictation, narration, summarizing, outlining, short critical essays, long critical essays, research paper) that will develop both writing and thinking skills in a systematic, stepwise manner. Includes suggestions on how to use these writing and thinking skills in every area of the curriculum.

Get REAL!
Are you convinced that every homeschooling family except yours is great? Do you believe the lie that others are more organized, better prepared, have smarter kids, are wiser parents, and have a child in the national spelling bee? Well, let me set the record straight . . . that's not the way it is! The truth is most moms feel inadequate. Homeschooling moms fear that they're letting their kids down in their education and in example. They feel like their house is out of control, their children are beasts, and the sizzle has left their marriage. Join us as we unleash the power in being REAL. You’ll never be the same again.

The Four Language Arts--Developing Excellent Communication Skills in Children of All Ages
When asked, “What are the language arts,” people may respond by listing such things as: spelling, phonics, grammar, penmanship, composition, etc. But actually, only one of these is correct! According to the classical (and the common sense) model, there are four core “language arts” and to teach each from the beginning in the proper way must be the highest priority for those who call themselves “writing educators.”

Not Just Your Average Genius
In this fast-paced, easy-to-understand workshop, you will distinguish three different grids that impact the unique way each one in your family learns: learning modalities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic); learning styles (Feeler, Thinker, Sensor, Intuitor); learning intelligences (interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic, spatial, math-logical, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, naturalist). Discover how to honor (not curse!) that wiggler in your midst; how to create a rich atmosphere for learning that will attract every learner; how to utilize your children's strengths to learn subjects that are hard for them; and most importantly, learn that God delights in the incredibly individualized mechanisms for learning inside each of us! With this insight, including new research on intelligences, you will be able to adapt your teaching strategies AND choose your curriculum wisely.

Battle of the Worldviews
The term "worldview" is a buzzword. Most people have heard it, but what actually is it? The information our children receive, even if we homeschool, actually comes from a variety of sources—some we might not actually be aware of. The secular world’s presentation of science ultimately comes from an interpretation of the facts (i.e. within a worldview framework). In his eye-opening presentation, Gary will help us realize that in this vital, foundational area of origins, "the evidence is not neutral" as he shows us where the idea of millions of years of evolution comes from, and how such a secular view of science actually destroys the very gospel of Christ. But more importantly, how the same "facts" support the Biblical account of Creation.

Making a Transcript
Transcripts are a hassle, so why bother? Because they are the love language of colleges and a key to college admission and scholarships! Homeschoolers have the advantage, because parents can create transcripts that represent the whole student and demonstrate his unique strengths. Parents are perfectly capable of creating winning transcripts that capture delight-directed learning, while incorporating grades, credit values, and course titles. Come learn the “why and how” of making a transcript!

Family - Our Best Apologia Ever
Apologia is a Greek word meaning “defend the faith.” In a society saturated with an evolutionary perspective, students need to be taught from a Biblical worldview. The statistics show that a very small percentage of born again believers have a worldview consistent with basic Christian doctrines. The Internet, movies, music, books, and other media heavily influence the thoughts, beliefs, and corresponding actions of young people. How can homeschool parents help their children stand firm with a solid, Biblical worldview? Certainly one solution can be the use of good books and curricula, including Creation-based science curricula. The best way is by example in the context of family. Davis will explain how raising children in a family setting where Christ is worshiped and where the Word of God is the primary text can fulfill the great commission and result in generational faithfulness. Family is truly our best defense of the Christian faith.

I Will Not Let You Go!
Based on the manipulative life of Jacob, his rival relationship with his brother, the lack of relationship between his mother and father, and his constant marital conflicts, the stage is set for a life of deception—self-deception. Believing that holding on to a better inheritance, more children, a better wife, and a better job will bring fulfillment, Jacob learns the hard way that he was holding on to all the wrong things in life. Join our journey with Jacob as we find unconditional acceptance in all the right places; but be prepared to fight because once you’ve found what you are looking for, you will need to hold on for your life! This seminar is based on Mark’s two years of research for his thesis and will cover sibling rivalry, marital conflict, parenting insights, and much more.

Catching the Journaling Bug – Creative Nature Journaling
Just as God has designed children with an intense curiosity about His Creation, He has also given them the ability to observe and re-create it as well. Not every child is a visual learner, however, so traditional methods of nature journaling can sometimes be a less-than-fulfilling experience. Thankfully, nature journaling is not limited to drawing a specimen and writing its Latin name on a page. By approaching this method of study creatively, you can heighten your child’s powers of observation and develop his writing and artistic skills as well. From her own experiences as a child artist to successfully teaching her four children how to write and draw from life, Jill shares the tips and techniques she has gleaned along the way. This inspiring and practical workshop will give you great ideas for expanding your nature journaling experience while making your child a lifelong nature enthusiast.

Managing the Multi-Level Homeschool
Teaching the Difficult Child

Managing the Multi-Level Homeschool
With several children in different grades, it can be difficult to keep everyone on track and moving at the appropriate pace. This practical workshop will teach you the ideas and techniques we (and others) have employed to effectively manage many grades at once. While homeschooling my four children (and at times babysitting others full-time), I spent a significant amount of time researching and learning from mothers of many more children than I had. Using their wisdom, I put these ideas to work for me and am so glad I did! Change the mayhem to peace and order, and get the important things accomplished in your home school day.

Teaching the Difficult Child

Do you have a difficult child? Is everything a struggle? What do you do when one of your children is just “different” and you struggle daily with self-control, patience, and loving kindness?
